A first for the University of Windsor, as early 4,800 graduands will receive diplomas this week during the university’s first-ever online Convocation ceremonies.
After pandemic restrictions made it necessary to cancel the spring celebration, organizers prepared for a double cohort to participate in the unique event. Registrar Alice Miller says the University’s 114th Convocation will feature pomp in unprecedented circumstances.
“This year, as a result of COVID-19, our celebratory approach had to turn to cyberspace,” Miller says. “Our goal has been to update our long-standing traditions in a way that ensures the safety of our honoured grads and their families and guests.”
Eligible graduands each received an emailed invitation to create a personalized slide that will be shown when their name is read during one of the 13 sessions that will be live-streamed Wednesday through Saturday.
