Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 259 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.
Total Cases & Active Cases
Of these new high risk cases:
- 129 were reported on April 9th
- 85 were reported on April 10th
- 45 were reported on April 11th
There are 354 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 63 active high-risk cases since Friday).
Note: The Health Unit had not released a total cases figure since Thursday.
Total overall cases increased from 40,684 on Thursday, April 7th to 41,089 on Monday, April 11th.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).
- 356,624 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+25 since Friday)
- 344,692 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+90 since Friday)
- 194,070 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+170 since Friday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 86.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
- 83.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
- 51.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)

Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 597. They say a man in his 80s from the community passed away.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 61 hospitalizations today (increase of 10), and 2 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 2).
