The Windsor Sculpture Park has a new sculpture.
A butterfly memorial monument has been donated by the Brain Injury Association of Windsor-Essex County.
The monument has two bronze arms rising out of a granite base with hands releasing butterflies made of steel on top.
The sides of the base are carved with names submitted by families and friends of those who have suffered brain trauma. Each year new names will be added at a ceremony.
“This is dedicated to those who have lost their lives to brain injury,” reads an inscription on the monument. “May we remember that the human brain is as fragile as a butterfly’s wings.”
The monument was designed by local artist Jack Byng, who is known for the sumo wrestler display at the downtown branch of the Windsor Public Library.
