The City of Windsor may be expanding their green space along Huron Church Road with the purchase of a house and property that backs onto the road.
The parcel of land is located on the west side of Huron Church Road between College Avenue and Girardot Street across from Assumption High School, and divides the existing city owned green space in two. The depth of the lot extends from Huron Church to Dot Avenue.
The city has tried several times unsuccessfully going back to 1990 to negotiate with the home owner for the land. In 2012 the home owner passed away, and her son contacted the City of Windsor to see if they were interested in the property still.
Should city council direct administration to negotiate for the purchase of the property, the funding would have to come from a per-commitment of the city’s 2014 capital budget. The city would also have to cover the cost of demolition of the home, which is estimated between $15,000 and $20,000.
A decision to enter into negations with the property owner goes before city council on July 22nd.
