Plans are now in motion to transform the University of Windsor Bookstore into brand-new office and lecture space, all before May 1st of next year.
In a construction tender posted to seek qualified builders for the project, the University says substantial construction should be completed by April 15th, 2013 with project completion date of May 1st.
Interior renovations will include a major transformation to the basement, first and second floors and see the construction of a 100 seat classroom, a 60 seat classroom, several meeting rooms, student study areas and the in-fill of an open 3 storey space with a new floor.
The new space will be utilized by the University’s Odette School of Business and the current Bookstore Inventory will be moving to a new, undetermined temporary location. The Bookstore was originally set to move to the old Thirsty Scholar Pub space in the basement of the CAW Student Centre, but the decision whether to let it to move into that space will be determined in a student referendum to take place soon.
The Odette School of Business building, which the Bookstore is structurally part of, was originally built in 1991 with 107,310 square feet of gross floor area including 25,000 square feet in the Bookstore area.
The new classroom space is set to be furnished and ready for students in September 2013.
