The Afters, an MTV-featured band hailing from Dallas, will return to Windsor to shoot a video for their latest single, Light Up The Sky. The Christian pop rock band used Windsor as the backdrop for their previous hit, Never Going Back To OK, in October of 2008. So what’s bringing them back to the “Dirty Dub”? Mimetic Entertainment and Gavin Michael Booth have a lot to do with it.
“Why go to Los Angeles or New York or anywhere else really,” Booth asks. “I continue to believe a film community can thrive here and I’m ever-encouraged to bring productions to my home court whenever I can. The talent, locations, and freedom that is provided here is phenomenal and I won’t make a production elsewhere unless I’m dragged kicking and screaming.”
Booth directed the band’s first video shoot here, and his ingenuity and enthusiasm were a huge draw for the band. Beyond that, though, lead singer Josh Havens notes the city’s welcoming and accessible vibe made the decision for choosing Windsor a no-brainer.
“The city went above and beyond in accommodating our huge production and cast needs on the last video,” Havens says. “Beyond that, Gavin is one of the most creative and talented guys I know. He thinks larger than life and is filled with so many great ideas. We were stoked at this latest video concept and how it is possible to accomplish it in Windsor once again.”
The Afters have enjoyed mainstream exposure for the past few years on MTV. They perform the theme song for the music channel’s fashion modeling show “8th & Ocean“, and they’ve won the mtvU online video of the year award in the past. In 2006, the band was honoured at the Gospel Music Awards by receiving the Dove for new artist of the year, and in 2009 they took home the Dove for rock/contemporary album of the year for their record Never Going Back To OK.
Mimetic Entertainment is currently hiring for the video, which will be shot on September 21st and 22nd. Actors and crew interested in participating can send their headshots/resumes to [email protected].
