October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Windsor Regional Hospital along with the Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program and Cancer Care Ontario are inviting women aged 50 to 54 to ‘Just Book It’ by scheduling an appointment for their first mammogram.

The hospital says that the average mammogram takes just five minutes to book and less than ten minutes to complete, and it could save a woman’s life.

This year’s campaign focuses on increasing screening participation among the 50 to 54 age group in particular. To increase screening participation, Cancer Care Ontario has chosen October 21st as the provincial Day of the Mammogram.

Windsor-Essex women aged 50-54 are invited to book a first-time mammogram appointment for October 21st. You can book at the Windsor Regional Hospital Breast Health Centre at the Met Campus by calling 519-253-0903.

You can also book at Windsor Radiological Associates, located at 1568 Ouellette Avenue or 13278 Tecumseh Road East by calling 519-256-4914 or you can simply walk in.

No referral from a Doctor is required.

“We know that early detection of breast cancer through mammography can result in significant health benefits, including increased treatment options and better survival rates,” says Dr. Winston Ramsewak, Regional Breast Imaging Lead. “Breast cancer occurs primarily in women 50 to 74 years of age, so now is the time for women on the younger end of this age range, from 50 to 54, to not only start thinking about screening for breast cancer but to start booking their regular mammograms.”
