Eight people will be losing their jobs at the end of July at the Windsor and LaSalle branches of Your Neighbourhood Credit Union.

The Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union says that the credit union is moving to an advisory branch model which does not offer wicket services to members, instead these member cash transactions are completed via an ATM.

The union says that some employes have more than ten years of service at the credit union.

Spokesperson for Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Kate Neff says that the new branch model created the need for three new assistant branch manager positions.

Neff says that existing staff were welcome to apply for those roles but chose not to.

“We provided notice well beyond what is required and we are also offering career transition and other support to the affected staff”

She said changes were made due to a decline in traffic in the branches, and increasing requests for more mobile and self-serve options.

“Members regularly ask us what we are doing to attract younger members,” Neff said.

The Windsor location will also move to Tecumseh Mall will be open 7 days a week. It is 2.6 km away from the current location.

“We understand change is difficult for some people, but we are receiving positive feedback from members who speak with us about the new branches,” Neff said. “We believe it is good for Windsor and LaSalle to have a choice for their banking services, and we want to stay and grow with the community.”
