A substantial donation by Dr. Geroge Yee to the Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation will help equip the Systemic Treatment Suite in the Cancer Centre. Systemic therapy, sometimes referred to as chemotherapy, uses drugs to attack cancer cells. Last year, patients attended the department 12,405 times and 2,189 new patients registered. Chief of Oncology Dr. Ken Schneider announced that the Systemic Suite is now named the “Dr. George and Fay Yee Systemic Therapy Suite”. Fay and Dr. Yee have been married 56 years.

Dr. Yee, a local pathologist who for 49 years specialized in disease diagnoses, has been diagnosed with cancer. In a letter read by his daughter, Dr. Lauren Yee, on Monday in the Cancer Centre at Windsor Regional Hospital he noted “Being the personal recipient of such news has not been my experience. Cancer has humbled me as a physician, as a patient and as a person. My family and I are extremely grateful to all of the health care professionals who have attended to my care”.

“Although I am no longer able to contribute to the well-being of patients and support of physicians through the lens of my microscope, it is my wish that this donation can continue to assist cancer patients and their families during this difficult time in their lives”, said Dr. Yee.
