Pelee Island Bird Observatory Bird talk
Billions of migratory songbirds travel to Canada each spring, filling the skies with their melodies. In this talk, Professor Dan Mennill shares a decade-long study on Savannah Sparrows in the Bay of Fundy. He reveals that these birds learn their songs from adults during their first months of life and refine them after migration through interactions with neighbours. This unique insight compares bird song learning to human language acquisition. Dan Mennill is a Professor of Ornithology at University of Windsor, specializing in bird song studies and bioacoustic research. He has developed innovative technologies for field studies and has published extensively with a large team. Recognized by leading scientific societies, Dan lives in Lasalle, Ontario, with his wife, artist Stéphanie Doucet, and their two children.
