41 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 41 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Monday, bringing the local total to 14,844.
New Cases
Cases increased from 14,803 on Sunday April 18th to 14,844 on Monday April 19th and 457 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 18 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 9 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 14 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
The Health Unit says 511 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 53 identified since yesterday). The Health Unit is now listing which variants have been identified and they say 430 of the variant cases to date have been the U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:
- 119,275 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+599 since yesterday)
- 106,569 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+581 since yesterday)
- 12,706 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+18 since yesterday)
- A total of 131,981 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+617 since yesterday)
How To Get A Vaccine
There are two vaccination programs at this time:
- Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
- Those eligible include:
- Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
- Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
- Healthcare workers in the highest priority, very high priority or high priority groups
- People with the highest risk, and high risk health conditions

- Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)
- Those eligible include:
- Pharmacy Vaccinations (AstraZeneca)
- Adults aged 40 and older can make an appointment at a participating pharmacy.

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 13,978 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 56 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 409.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 12 hospitalizations today: 4 people in acute care (decrease of 12 today), and 8 people in the ICU (increase of 4 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says the hospitalization numbers include two transfers from Toronto hospitals.
