1 New Death, 35 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 35 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Monday, bringing the local total to 11,057

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 11,022 on Sunday January 17th to 11,057 on Monday January 18th and 2,673 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 2 cases are outbreak-related, 4 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, and 29 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Dr. Ahmed says he’s aware of the recent day-to-day fluctuations in the daily case counts (Friday’s 171 cases, Saturday’s 87 cases, Sunday’s 270 cases, and today’s 35 new cases). He says the Health Unit has not received notification from the labs of any delays, but he says due to the high volume of tests recently, test results may be starting to be prioritized in a different way. He says he is cautiously optimistic that the daily cases are coming down, but some indicators are starting to show progress.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 8,128 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 73 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There has been one new death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 256. The Health Unit says a woman in her 90’s from a retirement home passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 119 hospitalizations today: 101 people in acute care (1 less today), and 18 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
