Windsor Regional Hospital has seized over 1,100 items since the Evolv Weapons Detection System was installed in both Emergency Department locations on October 19th.
The new system uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) that distinguishes between items that might be a threat, such as a gun or a knife, and most everyday items individuals might be carrying. This is unique because typical metal detection screening systems require the individual to remove most metal objects before screening.
This system allows staff, patients and visitors to proceed through the ED entrance without always having to open bags or empty pockets.
The hospital says that of the 1,100 items, 600 were knives. Any items seized are turned over to the police.
