The Windsor Spitfires have signed top 2016 NHL draft prospect Luke Kirwan in a move aimed to put the team back on top of the OHL.
The club announced the signing this morning and are ready for the powerhouse player to head to training.
“Luke is a true power forward that adds size and an instant scoring threat to our lineup,” said GM Warren Rychel. “He’s a player we’ve coveted since he was drafted back in 2013. Luke is a dedicated young man who is interesting in learning and getting better. I think our fans will appreciate his game and he’ll a huge contributor to the Windsor Spitfires.”
The Spitfires were denied a first round pick last year due to a previous sanction against the team.
The Spitfires acquired the rights to the 1997-born native of Syracuse, New York last month.
The 16-year-old spent the 2013-14 season with the United States National Under-17 team, putting up 29 goals and 28 assists along with 54 penalty minutes in 54 games.
He represented the United States at last season’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and made six goals and seven assists in six games.
