Five Years Later: Casino Windsor Transforms To Caesars Windsor

Caesars Windsor is celebrating five years since its dramatic transformation from “Casino Windsor” to Caesars Windsor.
As part of the Anniversary Celebrations today, Mayor Eddie Francis said “Caesars Windsor has the best service, best employees and best amenities and that’s why people keep coming back. The Caesars brand has meant so much to this city.”
Caesars Windsor unveiled a $25,000 donation to be equally divided among five local charities: Aids Committee of Windsor, Alzheimers Society of Windsor Essex, Hospice of Windsor, The Multicultural Council and Essex Region Conservation Authority.
The journey from Casino Windsor to Caesars Windsor, five years ago, involved the building of the Augustus Tower, convention and entertainment facilities including the 5000-seat Colosseum.
Take a look back at the building of the now five-year-old facilities:
March 2006: The basements and sub-basements of the tower are being poured in the large hole that is to be Caesars.
Early 2007: Once a busy downtown thoroughfare, McDougall St. is now home to major construction equipment.
January 2007: The “Podium” of the new hotel tower has been constructed, next up is the hotel tower itself.
February 2007: The Entertainment Complex rises from the ground.
March 2007: Two floors of the Augustus Tower have been constructed, a third is being poured and framework for the Grand Entrance/Skybridge is in place.
March 2007: Framework for the Skybridge is in place.
Mid-2007: The Augustus Tower rises from the “Podium”
Spring 2007: The hotel tower begins to take shape and is noticeable from many parts of Windsor.
Spring-Summer 2007: The Skybridge/Grand Entrance is enclosed.
Fall 2007: Windows on the sides of the tower are up and the skybridge is enclosed.
Fall 2007: Windows are up on the tower.
November 2007: The windows are catching up with the top of the tower.
January 2008: The street below the skybridge is weather-proofed to improve construction of the sidewalks, escalators doors and ceiling fixtures.
Early 2008: The tower has been topped off, interior work is running full-steam.
May 2008: Final touches are being added to the Augustus Tower.
May 2008: The CAESARS sign replaces the existing Casino Windsor sign at the Southwest entrance.
June 17th, 2008: Complete! The Augustus Tower and Entertainment Complex are finished and ready for opening day.
