A line of trees on Jefferson Avenue may soon be cut down.
The Jefferson Avenue berm, located between Queen Elizabeth Drive and Rose Avenue, has approximately 700 trees made up of Austrian Pines and Blue Spruces.
The trees act as a buffer between the busy road and nearby houses.
Over the years, the City of Windsor says that the conditions of the trees has been deteriorating and that the trees have been infected by different fungi that are usually fatal.
The Forestry Department has recommended these trees be removed and replaced with deciduous species like English Oak, that retain their leaves through the winter.
In the 2014 City budget, a plan has been made to replace the trees over three years starting in 2014 with a cost of $130,000 per year.
