This Week’s Agenda Highlights:
Noise is back before council this week. The issue has been deferred a number of times before. Several recommendations are being made to deal with late night noise, mainly coming from downtown bars. An additional report will is also presented to council for consideration on the noise by law of Edmonton. Some of the new bylaws the city is looking at include new rules for bars that install garage doors, and setting hours when bars can have their windows and doors open at night. Also being looked at is adjusting the work schedules of enforcement staff so that more bylaw inspectors will be on the downtown streets in the summer months. The report also suggests requesting that the provincial Alcohol and Gaming Commission put in place tighter noise controls onto liquor licenses.
The Children’s safety village is making a proposal to both the City and the Windsor Citizen’s Crime Prevention Committee to become the lead on proving citizen based crime prevention activities in Windsor. These programs include neighborhood watch, block parent, apartment watch and seniors taking extra precautions (STEP) The proposal by the Safety Village is to increase both the visibility and awareness of the programs, and to reduce and eliminate the effects of crime and preventable injury to the most vulnerable members of the community. The proposal states that funding assistance and support may be requested of both the Windsor Police Services and the City of Windsor.
The city has received a donation from the Canada-Japan Society of $3,000.00 to establish a Fujisawa garden in Jackson Park. The initial donation will be used to purchase Japanese plant material and the gardens will further be developed when funds are available from future capital budgets, as well as partnerships and donations.
