For the second monthly Riot Grrrl Tuesday, feminist radio program Milk & Vodka hosted its’ own version of a Halloween party.
The Gender Police
The event took place at Phog Lounge (157 University Ave W) and included a female-based soundtrack and costume contest. Attendees were invited to dress as their favourite feminists, providing an alternative to the sexy [noun] costumes typically available for women this time of year.

“There’s a double standard in Halloween costumes,” says Sarah Morris, who co-hosts the weekly CJAM radio spot, “Guys get their pick of silly, scary, or weird, but no matter what they want, women get sexy.”
Frank as Frida
Riot Grrl Tuesdays is a new event in Windsor. Last month it ws a benefit for safe and legal abortion, and this time a holiday-inspired party. The goal is to provide a fun, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere for the local feminist community to gather and discuss women’s issues in Windsor and across the globe.
The Paper Bag Princess
For October’s event, Morris and her co-host Jessie Fuerth had the goal of promoting alternative costume ideas, and the perks of do-it-yourself.
Best costume of the night: Zombie Suffragette
The disguises in attendance included a Wandering Womb and Wednesday Addams, as well as some really interesting ones that won the various costume contest categories.

“I love that there aren’t any sexy hamburgers,” said Maggie, the Zombie Suffragette, “Halloween is supposed to sharpen your story-telling skills, make you think about what you are. Here, people did that, instead of being a slice of watermelon.”
