Demolition has started at the site of last May’s large restaurant fire on Erie Street.
Firefighters were called in the early morning hours of May 21st, 2015, to the building that housed the Masaya Cafe and Lounge on the main floor as well as residential units on the second floor, and found heavy fire coming from the building.
As firefighters attempted to enter the building the fire quickly spread to the second floor and broke thought the roof, and fire crews had to pull out.
Two aerial trucks were used to fight the flames and close to a dozen fire units.
The fire was brought under control around 6am.
Power had been knocked out to 2,600 homes and businesses in the area for about two hours.
The blaze caused $500,000 in damage.
