Dozens of Windsor Firefighters, past and present, marched from Windsor Fire Headquarters on Goyeau Street to Windsor Grove Cemetery in honour of their fallen comrades.

Windsor was joined by members of the Detroit Fire Department to mourn those who have passed away, both inside and outside of the fire service, locally.

“A firefighter would attempt to move heaven and earth to prevent disaster or save a life,” said firefighter association president Angelo Gertsakis.

Officials say the ceremony was a way to keep alive the memories of men and women who dedicate their lives to saving others.

Among deceased firefighters and personnel honoured were William Brindle, George Phillips, Robert Thurlow, Louis Deschamps, David Pillon, John Wilson, Gilbert Dupuis, Raymond Seguin, James Crowley, Robert Durocher, Jack Scratch, Mario Piva, Stanley Scaife, Chuck Doherty, Gary Fleming, John Hillis, Berbard Glabb, Fr. Mike Graham, George Coleman, Lloyd Carpenter, John McLeod, Lorison Hyslop, Constantine Gherasim, Brian Horstead, Joseph Durocher, Peter Callen, Donald Dywelska and Allan McNeeley.
