Tuesday evening Windsor City Council approved spending $107,000 to bring the Bert Weeks Memorial Garden back up to its original condition.
The original council report suggested that council look to fund this when they debate the 2015 budget, but Mayor Eddie Francis proposed using money from a surplus for the Ontario Summer Games.
In addition the city will fund two years of maintenance at a cost of $40,000 from money set aside for waterfront beautification projects. It will then be up to Parks director John Miceli to work this into the annual parks budget.
Members of the Weeks family had also pushed for security cameras and extra measures at the park such a s cameras to stop vandalism, but the city said that no parks have constant security.
