During the month of March, the Canadian Cancer Society’s Driven to Quit Challenge offers participants a chance to win a car and other cash prizes, if they stay smoke-free for the month.
“Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Ontario, killing 13,000 people annually or 36 people a day,” says Dr. Heimann, Medical Officer of Health, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
The Canadian Cancer Society’s Driven to Quit Challenge is open to anyone in Ontario over the age of 19, who used tobacco at least once a week for at least 10 months in 2013, and who has used tobacco at least 100 times in their life.
While some people choose to quit on their own, using nicotine replacement products or quit smoking medications can improve your chances of quitting. Registrants who want to buy nicotine replacement therapies to help with their quit attempt during the challenge will be given a coupon upon registration.
Registration for the challenge is open until February 28, 2014. For more information on local quit smoking supports and services available, you can the Health Unit website here or call 519-258-2145 ext. 3100.
