Lakeshore’s annual pothole-filling operations start to roll out this week, with crews prioritizing high-traffic roads.
Officials say that local roadways have faced particularly difficult conditions this year with several freeze-thaw cycles. The fluctuations in temperatures have caused snow to melt and then refreeze, which expands small cracks in roads and creates potholes. Recent wintry weather has also delayed the start of pothole-filling, as staff have focused on snow clearing and salting local roads.
“We’ve faced particularly difficult roadway conditions this year, and our crews will be taking a systematic approach to repair the busiest roads in Lakeshore first,” said Krystal Kalbol, Corporate Leader – Operations. “We’re asking drivers to exercise extra caution around road maintenance crews and for patience as these operations roll out in the coming weeks.”
