30 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 30 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 13,505.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,475 on Wednesday March 17th to 13,505 on Thursday March 18th and 279 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 7 cases are outbreak related, 10 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 7 cases are community acquired, and 6 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

• 30,640 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+2,766 since yesterday)
• 11,910 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (+29 since yesterday)
• A total of 54,460 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,824 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says they are continuing to vaccinate those 80 years of age and older at the WFCU Centre and the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Complex. Marentette says she anticipates the Health Unit “will be completing everyone who has pre-registered by mid to late next week.”

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

• People 80 years of age and older

  • Or you can call 519-251-4072.
  • The Health Unit says you should pre-register using their system and not the province’s system. They say if you try to register on the province’s system, you will be re-directed to the local system.
• People aged 60 to 64
  • If you’re aged 60-64, you can get a vaccine at a participating pharmacy.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,825 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 24 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 401.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 23 hospitalizations today: 19 people in acute care (1 less today), and 4 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
