A Celebration of life and tribute dinner has been planned in honour of the late Dr. Joseph Galiwango on Saturday August 6th at the Caboto Club.
Dr. Galiwango — known affectionately by many patients as “Dr. Joe” — came to Windsor in 1978 after completing his paediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Galiwango helped to open Windsor’s first Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and dedicated much of his time to the Rotary Club of Windsor and the Windsor African Canadian Community.
Dr. Galiwango is also credited with founding the Windsor Essex Care for Kids Foundation (W.E. Care for Kids) along side Alan Defoe and Bill Micelli.
W.E. Care for Kids has raised over $7.2 million since 1997.
The event is being organized by friends and family of Dr. Galiwango as a way to celebrate the life of the community leader.
Sons Dr. Paul Galiwango and Joseph Galiwango plan to attend the event with their families.
Tickets for the Celebration of Life and Tribute Dinner are $50 and are now available through the W.E. Care for Kids office by calling 519985-2608. All funds raised from the event will benefit the Windsor Essex Care for Kids Foundation.
