At first, it seemed like a repeat of their last meeting. Brampton was in control early and Windsor couldn’t connect – until Kevin Loiselle’s three-pointer in the first initiated a turnaround. Windsor would quickly work its way up; from then on, the Express never fell behind. They went on to defeat the Brampton A’s 104-90 at the WFCU Centre.
Quinnel Brown’s impressive 30 points led the way for Windsor. Chris Commons scored 17 points and grabbed a whopping 16 rebounds.
Quinnel Brown started things off for the Express after the A’s scored the opening basket. Soon after, though, Brampton took advantages of a few Windsor mistakes. Coach Bill Jones called a timeout after Brampton’s early offense. Once regrouped, the Express took to the court. The two teams were going basket-for-basket, until Kevin Loiselle hit a three-pointer that would get the train going. The shot was the play that turned the game around as the Express quickly caught up to the A’s, and even took a late 21-20 lead. They finished the quarter up 23-22.
Building off the energy from the first, Windsor began the second quarter with seven straight points. By the midway point, it extended its lead to 41-29. Following the media timeout, the teams played mostly back-and-forth basketball, matching basket for basket. The fast-paced quarter ended with a Brampton three-point shot that put the score at 52-42 in Windsor’s favour.
Maintaining the lead was now Windsor’s top priority. The Express continued offensively, keeping a generous gap between them and the A’s. With equally as strong defense, they were able to grab a 14-point lead in the quarter. Brampton stayed close, though, keeping the game within 10 points at the end of the third.
To get things going once more was Loiselle. He kicked things off early in the fourth with an alley-oop that drew loud cheers from the fans. Windsor continued to increase its lead, slowly making its way to a large 24-point advantage over the visitors. The Express were really putting in a strong effort, allowing for Josh Collins and Jahmal McQueen to get some time on the court. When the clock ticked to zero, Windsor walked away with a 104-90 victory over the Brampton A’s.
The Express get a night off before facing the Saint John Mill Rats Saturday, January 10th at 7pm at the WFCU Centre.
