A Toronto theatre company will be at the Olde Walkerville Theatre in February performing a play for one weekend only.
The Play Weird: The Witches of Macbeth focuses on the three witches from Shakespeare’s tragedy. This play explores the story of MacBeth from the witches’ perspective.
Executive Director, Phillip Psutka says the play digs deeper into the dynamics of the witches as sisters, as well as how their decisions and actions affect MacBeth and the events of Shakespeare’s play.
The play will incorporate elements of aerial circus arts, combat and dance to tell the story. In terms of aerial circus art, its purpose is to depict the witches supernatural energy, Psutka said.
“We know what happens with the Witches in Shakespeare’s play when they encounter Macbeth. When we see them, we seem them when they execute a charm. What we don’t see if the dynamics of them in terms of being sisters,” said Psutka.
Three of the company’s members are graduates from the University of Windsor’s acting program. The two co-founders of the play company, Theatre Arcturus, wanted to use the training they gained from the university.
“We really wanted to bring what we had learned from and after school back to Windsor and share with the community,” said Psutka.
Regular admission for the play is $21 and $18 for students and seniors. The show is appropriate for all ages and features the University of Windsor’s Alumni.
It will be here in Windsor from February 5th through the 8th.
