A new website and online petition is calling for the City of Windsor to green the Festival Plaza along the riverfront.
The asphalt plaza was originally paved in the 1990’s to be used as a temporary parking lot for the interim Casino, and the riverboat casino. After the new casino opened and the lot was no longer needed for parking, it became the Festival Plaza.
A temporary stage was built using the old dome from the interim casino until the new stage was built in 2011.
The area around the stage has remained unchanged from the days of a parking lot, and now the group wants to see that changed.
They say the space is hot in the summer, loud during concerts, and uninviting to the public and organizers wonder what some grass, trees, shade structures, and possibly a little elevation could do.
In addition to concerts and events, they feel that it should also attract residents on a daily basis for picnics, gatherings, and just enjoying the riverfront.
If you feel the plaza should be greened, check out their website here.
