Dougall Food Basics Set To Close

Food Basics on Dougall is set to close mid-summer.
Metro, which owns the Food Basics brand, says the decision to close the store was due to the location not meeting economic objectives.
“Yes, it will be closing on July 31. The store was not meeting its economical objectives,” says Metro’s senior director of corporate affairs Marie-Claude Bacon.
Employees say the store at 2491 Dougall Avenue has stopped ordering new product.
A sign taped to the store’s front doors informs customers that rain cheques are no longer being issued but the nearest store on Goyeau will continue to issue rain cheques.
Food Basics’ announcement comes on the same day news broke about the closure of Tecumseh Mall’s Sobeys location. That store is set to close in September.
