This Friday, the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee’s “Green Speaker Series” continues with Walkable Communities expert Dan Burden. Burden is the Co-founder and Director of Innovation and Inspiration at the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute.
Dan will discuss how creating more walkable streets contributes to healthier, more vibrant communities with thriving economies and take participants for a walking audit along Wyandotte between Argyle and Parent Avenues to highlight where walkability can be improved.
Most of the days events happen at the Walkerville Brewery.
The days outline is as follows:
11am – Welcome and introductions – overview of policy work to date
11:15am – Educational Presentation: Street and Community Design for Active, Healthy Living at All Ages; Best Practices: Design Treatments, Tools and Capacity-Building
12:30pm – Lunch Break (Lunch will be provided)
1:30pm – Walking Audit of Wyandotte and Walkerville BIA districts
2:30pm – Visioning and Next Steps
3:30 – closing Thoughts and Q&A
4:00 – Conclusion
