Windsor’s new VIA Rail station will be having its official opening “sometime in the Fall, by the end of the year” says Mylène Bélanger, spokesperson for VIA Rail.
The new station will be replacing the current aging station which is used by hundreds of passengers daily.
Construction crews finished exterior construction in February and have been working on the interior since.
The originally set opening date for the new station was January of this year, however this was pushed to July according to the VIA Rail website. Signage inside the station lists January 2013 as the expected opening date, however windsoriteDOTca confirmed with VIA Rail that the opening will take place this autumn. There’s no official word on what caused the delays.
The new station is designed by Myk Wasylko is being constructed by Loaring Construction.
The new facilities will include many sustainable and energy-efficient features such as geothermal in-floor heating, solar panels and LED lighting, and will look similar to the bus depot in downtown Windsor that was completed a few years ago.
