The "Macassa Bay"

Windsor River Cruises are a unique and affordable way for both visitors and local residents to get out on the water and enjoy scenic tours of the Windsor and Detroit Waterfronts.

John Sheridan is vice president of Windsor River Cruises and he is excited and optimistic when talking about his new business venture at 1 Festival Plaza.

“Windsor has one of the nicest waterfronts in the country and a cruise liner of this type goes together like salt and pepper,” said Sheridan. “It’s good for the city and it’s good for us. We’re hoping to become an integral part of the downtown tourist industry.”

Daily site seeing cruises begin on June 1 and cost $22.50 for the two and a half hour experience. The cruise features an audio commentary that highlights the historical significance of the Detroit River and various points of interest along the way.

Macasa Bay is the pride of Windsor River Cruises.

At one time, the boat was used in the Hybernia Oil Fields to shuttle workers on and off the rigs.

Sheridan says a number of special events are planned for the summer including a murder mystery cruise, Elvis cruise and dinner/dance cruise with Bobby Brew and his Dalhousie Street Paraders.

Starting Mondays in July and August, Windsor River Cruises is pleased to offer a day trip to historical Amherstburg. Sheridan says the trip is being offered in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Boaters will see historical naval battle sites, enjoy the afternoon visiting various attractions including local wineries, Fort Malden and unique shops. Dine at one of your favourite restaurants then board the ship for an evening sunset cruise back to Windsor.

Sheridan, a boater all his life is having fun with the venture.

“It’s a fun business. It’s nice to see people get off the boat with big smiles on their faces,” said Sheridan.

“I’m positive, confident and happy in what we’re doing. I think downtown Windsor and its waterfront is one of the best kept secrets in the country.”
