An F1 tornado touched down in Leamington around 3am Sunday morning in the vicinity of Bevel Line and Seacliff Drive. It ran a course of approximately half a kilometre heading westbound. Despite its relatively short course, additional downbursts from the storm system are supposedly responsible for causing heavy property damage further westward near Kingsville, according to Environment Canada.
Nonetheless, nearly every large tree along Seacliff Drive from Erie Street in Leamington to Union Avenue in Kingsville was either damaged or completely uprooted.
No injuries were reported despite all the destruction. Hydro One deployed its entire fleet to the area to repair and replace all of the many downed hydro lines. Several Union Gas vehicles were also scattered throughout the area to deal with severed gas lines. There was a strong smell of natural gas around a few of the damaged homes. Additional fire fighters from other municipalities in Essex County also responded to help out the Town of Leamington, which is still currently in a state of emergency.
