Precautions You Should Take

Current Provincial Guidance & Restrictions
The province is providing guidance, recommendations and restrictions on a regular basis to public health. As of March 17th, 2020, under the provincial Emergency Act the following orders are in place until April 15th:

  • Mandatory under the federal Quarantine Act, anyone traveling outside of Canada should self-isolate for 14 days upon return. If symptoms develop during self-isolation, including fever and/or cough call public health at 519-258-2146 ext. 1420.
  • Prohibition on organized public events and social gatherings over 5 people (funerals can have up to 10)
  • Closure of all communal or shared public or private, outdoor recreational amenities everywhere in Ontario including gardens, parks, sports fields beaches, etc.
  • Closure of all Ontario Parks to visitors
  • Closure of all licenced child care centres
  • Closure of all public schools
  • Closure of all public libraries
  • Closure of all facilities providing indoor recreational programs
  • Closure of all private schools as defined in the Education Act
  • Closure of all Theatres and movie theatres
  • Closure of all concert venues
  • Closure of all Casinos (until further notice)
  • Closure of all bars and restaurants, except to the extent that such facilities provide takeout food and delivery
  • Closure of all non-essential workplaces
  • Long Term Care, Retirement Facilities, Hospice, and residential care facilities only permit essential visitors and actively screen visitors for symptoms and travel history, excluding entry if failed screening
  • Suspension of all non-essential travel outside of Canada
  • Physical distancing (2 Metres)

Be advised that there is currently a state of emergency declared for the City of Windsor and the County of Essex

Current recommendations from Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health
Dr. Wajid Ahmed supports all of the recommendations and restrictions provided by the Government of Ontario for the City of Windsor and County of Essex. As well Dr. Ahmed recommends:

  • All residents returning from travel outside of Canada self-isolate for 14-days upon return, including essential workers returning from non-essential travel.
  • Seniors and high risk individuals should avoid any non-essential trips and stay home as much as possible.
  • Commuters that cross to Detroit for work purposes should consider work from home options with their employer where possible and regularly self-monitor for any symptoms including taking their temperature.
  • Employers in Windsor and Essex should make arrangements for their employees to work from home whenever possible. If work from home is not an option, please ensure that your workplace follows the 2 meter physical distancing measure to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees and the community.
  • Healthcare workers especially those who work in long term care homes and are employed in multiple settings should work with their employers to restrict their work to one institution (whenever possible) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Physicians should screen clients over the phone and refer as appropriate.
  • Implement your emergency preparedness plan to ensure you have what you need in case of self-isolation.
  • Wash hands with soap & water thoroughly and often.
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue. Dispose of tissue immediately and wash your hands.
  • Keep surfaces clean and disinfected.
  • Stay home when you are sick; call your health care provider for advice and take the online self assessment tool for COVID-19.

General Closures, Cancellations & Postponements

  • A provincial State of Emergency is in effect until April 13th, 2020.
  • All grade schools and all high schools are closed from March 14th until further notice.
  • All CHL (Windsor Spitfires) games cancelled until further notice.
  • All NBL (Windsor Express) games cancelled until further notice.
  • St. Clair College closed and moved all classes online as of March 23rd, 2020.
  • The University of Windsor closed and moved classes online.
  • Hockey Canada has suspended any/all hockey Sanctioned by OWHA or OMHA.
  • Girl Guides of Canada has cancelled all meetings, sleepovers, camps, public cookie selling events, travel and any other in-person events until April 14th.
  • Scouts Canada events are cancelled until April 5th.
  • All elective procedures at dental offices have been cancelled.
  • All non-essential businesses must close.
  • All outdoor sports and recreation facilities must close.

  • The City of Windsor has closed its facilities.
  • Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare has a no visitor policy.
  • Windsor Regional Hospital has adjusted visiting policies.
  • Adventure Bay is closed.
  • Caesars Windsor is closed.
  • Devonshire Mall is closed
  • Tecumseh Mall is closed.
  • Windsor Crossing Outlet Mall remains open with reduced hours.
  • The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association Museum is closed until further notice.
  • The City of Windsor’s 14 EarlyON Centres are closed until further notice.
  • Riverside Minor Hockey has cancelled any and all hockey until further notice.
  • Brava Academy of Music and the Performing Arts has announced that all lessons from March 23 to April 5th will be held entirely online instead of face to face.
  • Border City Boxing has suspended all classes until further notice.
  • WFCU Credit Union has cancelled their Easter Egg Drop scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2020.
  • St. Clair Insurance Brokers have temporarily cancelled all office walk-ins and appointments.
  • Dance Barre will be closed from March 14th to April 5th.
  • Trios College is moving all classes online.
  • The Hospice has cancelled all events.
  • LaSalle Windsor Special Olympics sports programs are cancelled.
  • Tutoring Solutions Academy has moved all their tutoring sessions online.
  • The John McGivney Children’s Centre is suspending face-to-face clinical services.
  • Life After Fifty has closed to the public.
  • The Scottish Club of Windsor is closed until further notice and this includes all upcoming events as well as Fish and Chip Fridays.
  • Montessori School of Windsor – Bellewood School is closed until schools reopen.
  • Windsor International Film Festival’s WIFF 365 screenings for March and April are cancelled.
  • Edmunds Towers School of Dance will be closed.
  • Windsor Soccer Club (Ontario Soccer) has suspended all sanctioned soccer related activities.
  • Delta Chi daycare located in Coronation school is closed.
  • Franco-Sol Garderies / Child Care Centers are all closed until schools reopen.
  • The City of Windsor has closed all facilities except City Hall.
  • Sea, Army and Air Cadet activities have been postponed nationwide.
  • The Nigerian Canadians for Cultural, Educational and Economic Progress (NCCEEP) has cancelled all their events for March.
  • All South Windsor Skating Club programs are cancelled.
  • AMA Tennis & Badminton Club programming is cancelled.
  • All CGEC bingo locations are closing until April 6th.
  • Lush and Lululemon have both closed all stores.
  • YMCA are closing locations.
  • The Art Gallery of Windsor is closing until April 6th.
  • Windsor Rock Gym is closed until further notice.
  • Pure Dance Academy is closing all locations.

  • Industry Dance Co. will be closed until April 5th, 2020.
  • The 2 day Windsor Military Studies Conference scheduled for March 20 and 21 at the Tilston Armoury has been postponed until Sept 18 and 19th.
  • Fredrick and Associates Accountants are not allowing clients into their offices.
  • Windsor International Writers will be canceling the April 25 “Midnight in Paris” Gala.
  • Head of the Class Education has changed to offering all tutoring online.
  • The Multicultural Council is postponing the 19th Annual Herb Gray Awards Gala that had been scheduled for May 7th.
  • Triple Heart Nails mobile nail services has cancelled all services for the remainder of March and will re-evaluate in April.
  • Xtreme DanceWorks is closed until April 5th and is offering online classes for students.
  • Windsor Dance Experience is closed.
  • Regis Corp hair salons are closed.
  • The University of Windsor is postponing convocation.
  • Parking Enforcement in the City of Windsor is being relaxed.

Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, Lakeshore, LaSalle, Leamington, Tecumseh Closures, Cancellations & Postponements

  • Municipalities in Essex County have declared a state of emergency.
  • Erie Shores Healthcare hospital has a no visitor policy.
  • The Town of Essex has closed all facilities.
  • Discovery Child Care in St John’s school in Kingsville has decided to close until April 5th.
  • Discovery Child Care at Jack Miner Public School is closed until April 6th.
  • The Essex Region Conservation Authority has cancelled its March Break events, including Maple Moon and Maple March Break.
  • LaSalle Hangout For Youth is closed until April 5th.
  • The House Youth Centre in Amherstburg is closed until April 5th.
  • Brouillette Manor, a long term Care facility in Tecumseh is not allowing visitors.
  • Essex County Libraries have closed.
  • The Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce has postponed their Business Excellence Awards from March 27th to Thursday, May 14th, 2020.
  • Indigo Bookstores (Devonshire & St. Clair Shores) have cancelled all March break activities.
  • LaSalle Windsor Special Olympics sports programs are cancelled.
  • Audrey’s Clubhouse Latchkey daycare is closed from March 16th to April 3rd.
  • Once Upon A Time Child Care Centre has closed until April 6th.
  • Music Moves Kids Frozen 2 March Break Camp at Kingsville Arena has been cancelled.
  • Richmond Terrace Long Term Care (in Amherstburg) is no longer allowing visitors with the exception of palliative care residents.
  • Leamington SC United Soccer Club has cancelled all events and team activities until April 1st.
  • Lakeshore has closed all recreation centres.
  • The Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex has closed.
  • The Vollmer Centre has closed.
  • The Town of Kingsville has cancelled all recreational programs and private events at their facilities except weddings under 250 people.
  • Anderdon Child Care Inc. located in Anderdon Public School is closed until April 6th.
  • The Leamington Half Century Centre is closed for 3 weeks. Re-opening will be evaluated at that time.
  • The Libro Centre in Amherstburg is closing.
  • All indoor activities for Turtle Club, LaSalle Titans and LaSalle Athletics are temporarily suspended.
  • Skate LaSalle has cancelled all activities.
  • The Leamington Arts Centre is closed until April 6th.
  • Lakeshore’s program to replace aged water meters in homes is suspended effective immediately. Those with appointments up until April 3 are being contacted by staff.
  • Imagine Cinemas in Lakeshore is closed until it is safe to reopen.
  • The Gibson Gallery in Amherstburg will be cancelling all programs, events and public access, effective immediately, until further notice.
  • The Kingsville Municipal Offices have closed.
  • The LaSalle Civic Centre has closed to the Public.
  • The Town of Tecumseh has closed all public facing offices.
  • The Lakeshore Dog Pound has closed to the public.
  • Lazee G Ranch is closed.
  • Tecumseh is closing outdoor facilities.
