This year’s World Refugee Day event will be held in Windsor at the Capitol Theatre on June 18th from 12:00pm-2:00pm. It will feature Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier turned artist/activist, as well as many other talented, local performers. Admission is absolutely free and the event is open to all ages!

Since 2000, World Refugee Day has occurred every year on June 20th. It marks the anniversary of the 1951 UN Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. On this day, we remember the challenges that refugees have had to overcome throughout history and those that they continue to face today. While it is truly a day of remembrance, it is also a day for us to celebrate the many contributions that they have made to the betterment of their local communities and to the whole of Canadian society. Their experience, their diversity and their strength enriches Canadian culture and teaches us about the realities of the world beyond our borders. Please join us in celebrating these very important members of our community at World Refugee Day 2015!
