Windsor Police have laid charges in a child pornography investigation.

Police say that in December of 2019 the Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit received information that originated from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre indicating that a suspect, possibly located in the City of Windsor, had allegedly uploaded child pornography.

Through investigation officers were able to identify a suspect believed responsible for the offences.  Investigators applied for and received judicial authorization to search a residence associated to the suspect.

On Thursday, May 28th, 2020 police attended the involved residence and arrested the identified suspect without incident.

The search warrant was then executed and officers seized a number of computer and electronic media storage devices for forensic examination.

As a result of the investigation, Richard Avery, a 44 year old male from Windsor, is charged with over 40 criminal offences associated with child pornography.

During the forensic examination of the seized material, investigators located a number of photos believed to have been taken locally by the suspect of adults and children in public places. Although these specific photos were concerning, they did not constitute an offence.
