Off-Duty Windsor Police Officer Facing Assault Charges

A Windsor Police officer is facing assault-related charges surrounding an incident that took place while off-duty.

Police say around 7:30am on Thursday, May 21st, 2020; an investigation was launched after receiving an assault complaint.

They say that the victim and the suspect were acquaintances who were known to one another. The victim reported they were assaulted by the suspect sometime overnight between May 20th and May 21st, 2020.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as an active Windsor Police Service officer, who was off-duty at the time of the reported incident.

On Thursday, May 21st, 2020, police arrested the suspect without incident.

Dejan Djurovic, a Windsor Police Service Constable with three years seniority, is charged with assault cause bodily harm, forcible confinement, assault/choking and mischief under $5,000.

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 22nd, 2020.

The officer has been suspended from duty.
