Having poor posture can result in several musculoskeletal issues such as pain in the neck, upper back, and shoulders. Below you will find 5 stretches that can help improve your posture and reduce your risk of developing these issues. Consult your health care practitioner if you are experiencing pain in these areas prior to performing these stretches.

Chin tucks: Lay on your back with a small rolled towel under the base of your head. Gently tuck your chin down into the bed.

Trapezius stretch: Place one hand behind your back then gently bend your neck the opposite way. You may use your other hand to apply slight pressure to the stretch.

Chest stretch: Stand in a corner or doorway with hands approximately at shoulder level. Gently lean in until a stretch is felt across the chest.

Cat stretch: Start on your hands and knees. Look down while you arch your back all the way up. Then look up as you arch your back down.

Seated upper back stretch: Place a small rolled towel behind your lower ribs. Lean back until a gentle stretch is felt. Repeat this stretch with the towel behind your mid back as well.
