A truck driver has been charged after he hit the back of a Windsor Police vehicle on the 401.
OPP say it happened around 10am on August 26th, 2016 on Highway 401 near Howard Avenue in Windsor, Ontario.
They say that a Windsor Police officer was conducting a traffic stop when their police vehicle was struck, from behind, by the transport truck.
The officer was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
As a result, the male driver, Donald Lampkin, 53-years-old of Detroit was charged with fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle – if safe to do so.
“Making a traffic or emergency stop on the shoulder of a busy highway or road sets a dangerous stage for police officers and our road safety partners, due to the risk of being struck, injured or killed by approaching vehicles whose drivers are not paying full attention. We are counting on all drivers to help ensure the safety of everyone by slowing down and, on multi-lane highways, safely moving over,” said Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support.
