“Exclusive Clothing” Robbed, Suspect’s Escape Thwarted by Road Under Construction

Windsor Police have one man in custody facing charges and are looking for a second suspect after a break and enter to an east side clothing store early this morning.

At 2:15am, Police responded to a report of a break and enter in progress to “Exclusive Clothing” located in the 4800 block of Tecumseh Road East. Police received information that two males had smashed the front window of the business, entered the store through the broken window and removed a large number of articles of clothing before leaving in a red, four door vehicle southbound on Norman Road.

Officers arriving on the scene observed the front window of the business smashed out and spoke to a witness who had seen one of the suspects load some clothing from the business into the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Officers travelled southbound on Pillette Road from Tecumseh Road in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle.

As they approached the intersection of Pillette Road at Plymouth Drive, they located a red four door car matching the description of the suspect vehicle northbound on Pillette Rd. make an abrupt left turn westbound onto Plymouth Drive in front of them. Officers also turned westbound onto Plymouth Drive where the road is closed for construction. The officers observed the suspect vehicle attempt to navigate around heavy construction machinery and deep potholes in the roadway. The suspect vehicle eventually left the roadway and slipped into the south ditch coming to rest on the driver’s side.

The approaching officers saw a male jump out of the passenger side door and run northbound into a residential area. Officers closed in on the suspect vehicle and observed a second man exiting the vehicle from the passenger door and he was arrested the suspect without incident. A subsequent examination of the vehicle revealed the car to be full of new clothing with price tags affixed.

A K9 Unit attended the scene but was unable to track the second suspect. Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle, a 1993 Chrysler Lebaron had been stolen earlier in the evening from an address on Ypres Street.

Garth Michael Brown, aged 19 years of Windsor is facing charges including Break and Enter, Theft Under $5000 and two counts of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.

The second suspect wanted in this offence is described as a white male, 20 years, 5’7″, clean shaven, wearing a black hooded 3/4 length jacket, black pants and black shoes with white laces.
