Jim Mroczkowski was one of fifteen students who graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Windsor forty years ago. He then went on to earn the very first MFA degree in drawing and painting from an Ontario university two years later at York University. While at York he was the first recipient of the Sarick Purchase Prize and the Stong Award.

During his long career as an art teacher, college and university professor and then as a university administrator, Jim Mroczkowski continued to maintain his studio practice and exhibit as a professional visual artist. In 2002 he was awarded an Established Artists grant from the Ontario Arts Council, the highest award granted to visual artists in the province.

His work has been included in over seventy-five solo, group and juried exhibitions throughout Canada since 1972 and has been represented by Joan Ferneyhough Gallery in North Bay ON and Axis Contemporary in Calgary AB.

This current exhibition at Artspeak Gallery presents some of his most recent work.
