Hi Everyone,
we will be putting on a car wash to raise money to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
My 12 year old son Devin has had Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) since he was 11 months old. T1D affects all aspects of a child’s life, from eating, exercise and even sleeping. Devin has to check his blood sugar at every meal, snacks, and even during the night, that’s 5 or more finger pokes a day. Devin is on the insulin pump which requires a site change which is like an IV every 3 days, he use to have needles at each meal and 2 before bed, a total of 6 shots or more a day. Sickness increases blood checks and insulin injections. Feelings like being angry increase his numbers, being excited and nervous decreases his numbers, as well as affected behaviours; high numbers can cause irritability, low numbers confusion. Exercise can act as insulin and decrease his numbers. He doesn’t wake from his sleep when he goes low (hypoglycaemic) this is very dangerous, a hypoglycaemic reaction can result in seizures and death.
The things he dislikes; his stunted growth, his calloused fingers, the fear I have of him sleeping out, not being able to swim/take a bath without ruining his site, having the responsibility of all of this.
As technology advances so does diabetic management but it is not a cure, it’s a treatment.
If you’d like to help our cause Monday May 19th 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Ground Effects on Walker Road we will be having a car wash, come on by :)

I would like to thank Jim Scott for allowing us to hold this event at Ground Effects, my team & volunteers for your help & for all the supporters, it is because of you all that T1D research is advancing and hoping one day a finding cure.
