Police have arrested an alleged drunk driver after he crashed into a car and struck a porch after fireworks, Monday night.

Around 11:30pm, emergency crews were called to the area of Elsmere Avenue Street and Hanna Street East for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

Police learned that a red pick-up truck was travelling west on Hanna Street and the blue Chrysler was southbound on Elsmere Avenue. The truck allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign and struck the blue car. As a result of the impact from the truck, the blue car struck a porch at a residence on Hanna Street. The truck then struck a utility pole and a parked vehicle.

The male driver and female passenger in the blue car were transported to hospital with minor injuries. A 7 year old child in the back seat was transported to hospital with a non-life threatening injury and is being monitored in hospital with a closed head injury. A 10 year old passenger was uninjured.

Based on the investigation and observations by the officers the 24 year old male driver was placed under arrest for impaired driving. He was transported to hospital with minor injuries. It was also determined the male’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
