A Windsor man has been charged after threatening to kill a police officer.

Chatham-Kent Police say it was around 3am Sunday that they were called to a business on Richmond Street in Chatham regarding a report of a man causing a disturbance.

The man left in a vehicle before police arrived, but was located and stopped a short distance away.

The officer believed that the male had been drinking alcohol and asked that he provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device. The man refused and was subsequently arrested.

During the arrest, the man threatened to kill another officer who was on scene.

The man was brought to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and began to fight with officers assaulting two of them. The officers did not suffer any injury.

He has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, and one count each of uttering threats, and refusing to provide a breath sample.

He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
