Area police say that they continue to receive calls regarding ‘Prize Pitch’ scams.

The scam is simple, the ‘lucky winners’ are called and advised that they have won a prize which is usually cash or a vehicle. In order to receive the prize, the ‘winner’ must wire money as part of their processing fees or for tax purposes.

Police say that if it is a legitimate contest you do not have to purchase a product to qualify for a prize or pay any fees. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Should you receive a similar call, document as much information about the caller as possible and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online here.
