There is no cure for arthritis… it hurts and it’s not just for ‘old’ people!

4.6 million – Over 4.6 million Canadian adults (one in six Canadians aged 15 years and older) report having arthritis. By 2036, this number is expected to grow to an estimated 7.5 million Canadian adults (one in five).

$33 billion – The impact of arthritis on the Canadian economy in health-care costs and lost productivity is estimated to be $33 billion each year. By 2031, this number is expected to more than double to over $67 billion.

First – Among all causes of disability in Canada, arthritis ranks first among women and third among men.

3/5 – Nearly three out of every five people with arthritis are of working age.

60 – Within a generation, there will be a new diagnosis of osteoarthritis in Canada every 60 seconds.

The term arthritis (“arthro” meaning joint, “itis” meaning inflammation) is used to refer to more than 100 related conditions. Arthritis can strike anyone at any time, regardless of age, physical condition or ethnic background, often with devastating and debilitating effects. Arthritis brings with it a burden of pain and disability that those living with this disease must face every day.

The Arthritis Society has many programs to offer people who have been diagnosed with arthritis. These programs are made possible largely due to fundraising and a strong volunteer base. The Arthritis Society’s signature fundraising event is the Walk to Fight Arthritis.

Select either a 1km or 5km walk, in this all-ages, everyone’s welcome, family-friendly event that is held in 25 cities from coast-to-coast.

Windsor’s Walk to Fight Arthritis location is at the beautiful Malden Park. Sunday June 8th at 10:00 am. There is a BBQ, door prizes, kids’ zone, Zumba warm up, fire truck tour and more. We need 200 walkers so bring your pets, wagons for the kids and let’s walk!

There is also a top prize for the highest community fundraising team. A luxury suite at a Windsor Spitfire game in the coming season (includes 14 tickets).

Arthritis affects many of us. Possibly your friend, family member, next door neighbour or even you!
