Windsor Police are crediting the public with helping to identify a man allegedly responsible for stealing a woman’s purse while she slept at her ill husband’s bedside.

On November 18th, a 55-year-old woman told police she was at her husband’s bedside at Windsor Regional Hospital, seated in a chair in a resuscitation room, when she fell asleep.

She told police that when she woke up, she discovered a male suspect holding her purse. She yelled at the male and he fled on foot with the purse.

The purse and wallet were both found later in close proximity to each other by the Emergency Room Entrance. A undisclosed amount of currency was taken from the wallet.

After receiving several anonymous phone calls, police say a suspect was arrested in the 700 block of Giles East.

A 25-year-old man was charged with theft under $5000.
