A Windsor man is in police custody following an on-board disturbance on a VIA train Thursday night.

Chatham-Kent police say that at 8:40pm, they received a call about a disruptive man with a knife aboard a passenger train travelling from Toronto to Windsor.

It is alleged that a male passenger was demonstrating bizarre behaviour that included talking to himself, having an agitated demeanor, and swearing at other passengers.

The train arrived at the Chatham train station just after 9pm, and officers boarded the train and arrested the man without further incident. During a search incident to his arrest, a pocket knife was located in his property.

Police say that no passengers or officers were injured as a result of this incident. No direct threats were made to anyone although passengers reported having concerns about the man’s behaviour.

The 35-year-old Windsor man has been charged with causing a disturbance and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
