Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for impaired driving last night.

Police say that at approximately 9:40pm, an officer on general patrol in Bothwell observed a man driving a golf cart on Elm Street with a bottle of beer in his hand. Police note that there was also a cooler on the back of the golf cart.

The officer pulled over the cart and as he did so he observed the man throw the bottle of beer on the ground. Through investigation, the officer believed that the driver was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. The man was transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.

Lawrence McMaster, age 54, of Elm Street in Bothwell has been charged with having a blood alcohol limit exceeding the legal limit. He has been released pending a future court date.

The golf cart was impounded for seven days according to the Vehicle Impoundment Program.
