It was a long, long-weekend for the Ontario Provincial Police.

OPP carried out a province-wide, Canada Day Long Weekend enforcement and education campaign and focused on aggressive drivers.

OPP say two people lost their lives in car crashes. There were no fatal boating or ATV incidents on OPP patrolled waterways and trails.

The OPP laid a total of 7,032 charges throughout the province for speeding, 98 impaired driving charges, 308 distracted driving charges and 1,593 charges were laid for seat belt violations for a province-wide total of 8,723 charges.

While the Canada Day Long Weekend is over, the OPP is asking the public to make reducing deaths and serious injuries on roads, waterways and trails a shared priority year round.
